FBI Arrest Daniel Mackinnon after San Diego Car Accident
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 26, 2019) – 36-year-old Daniel Mackinnon was involved in a solo car crash on Balboa Avenue Wednesday morning.
Investigators believe Mackinnon intentionally crashed the car into the Raytheon building in Kearny Mesa. After that, he jumped from the car and ran off, leaving it in flames.
Dispatchers received a call around 2:30 a.m. from a person who reported a vehicle on fire outside the Raytheon Integrated Defense building just east of Kearny Villa Road, according to San Diego police. Emergency crews responded to the scene and found a Toyota Prius had crashed into the building and was engulfed in flames. In addition, the vehicle was reported stolen.
Firefighters put out the flames within 20 minutes, but the blaze caused minor damage to the building. No injuries were reported.
Due to the nature of the incident, officials called in arson investigators and the FBI. In addition, the driver was later arrested and booked for suspicion of arson.
There has been no further information released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident. As a result, the accident is still under investigation.
