51-Year-Old Man Died after Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 101 near Talmage Road, Michael Seigler Arrested
UKIAH, CA (January 30, 2018) – A 51-year-old man died in the hospital following a hit-and-run crash on a Highway 101 on-ramp on early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded site of the crash on southbound Hwy. 101 near Talmage Road around 5:15 AM, when they received reports that a man was lying in the roadway after being struck by a vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Daniel De Los Santos was struck by the 2016 Ford F-250 pick-up truck being driven by 52-year-old Michael W. Seigler of Ukiah. Investigating officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, and when Seigler was contacted the next morning, he reportedly admitted to hitting De Los Santos and then leaving the scene.
De Los Santos sustained life-threatening injuries to his head, rib-cage and leg and was transported first to Adventist Health Ukiah Valle after the crash. He was moved to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died.
Seigler was arrested and booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.
