Daniel Anthony Andrade Identified as Fatality in Crash on Highway 154 Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara, CA (May 15, 2020) – On Friday evening, a 24-year-old Santa Maria man named Daniel Anthony Andrade died, while another two sustained severe injuries in a crash on Highway 154.
The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. just east of the entrance to Lake Cachuma County Park. Dispatched officers arrived and located a Honda Accord and a Ford Fusion on the scene.
Reportedly, the Honda was eastbound at a high rate of speed, “making unsafe passing movements over double yellow lines. Then it crossed into the opposing lane, where it slammed into the westbound Ford.
The Aftermath
As a result, the Honda driver, Mr. Andrade, was trapped in the wreckage and required extensive extrication. He was airlifted by Calstar medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Moreover, the 40-year old New Mexican woman, Ford driver, sustained severe injuries and taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by AMR ground ambulance. A third person reportedly sustained minor injuries, and also was taken to Cottage.
Furthermore, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. None of the identities of those involved is release at this time.
Officers closed the Highway 154 for about an hour during cleanup and preliminary duties. Further investigation is ongoing.
