1 Dead in Hockely County Auto Accident on US 62 near Ropesville
HOCKELY COUNTY, TX (September 9, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, 66-year-old Daniel Alvarado died in a devastating rollover crash on US 62.
The incident happened at about 4:45 p.m. on US 62, six miles north of Ropesville.
Officers revealed that 69-year-old Santiago Miranda drove an SUV southwest on US 62 in the inside westbound lane. Meanwhile, 66-year-old Alvarado of Brownfield, and 73-year-old Felix Cerna, of Lubbock, rode as passengers in the vehicle.
Then, Miranda veered right for an unknown reason and went across the roadway into the west ditch. Afterward, the vehicle overturned an unknown number of times and came to a rest upside down east of the railroad tracks.
As a result, the 66-year-old passenger from Brownfield succumbed to injuries at the scene. Officers said that he failed to wear his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Then, responders took both Miranda and Cerna to UMC in Lubbock with serious injuries.
