Damani Mathews Jr Arrested in Vehicle Collision on Interstate 80 [Vacaville, CA]

Vacaville, CA (April 26, 2023) On Tuesday, 29-year-old Damani Mathews Jr. of Oakland, was arrested after a vehicle collision on Interstate 80.

CHP says that a Caltrans highway worker was injured after the hit-and-run crash near Alamo Drive at around 10:36 a.m.

Reports say that a stolen a white Acura was being chased by Contra Costa County deputies on eastbound I-80 at I-780. Officials gave up on the pursuit after the driver drove recklessly.

Later, the Acura hit a truck and a highway worker inside a construction site. After the collision, the driver, later identified as Mathews, fled on foot and was later captured by Solano County deputies with the help of a CHP aircraft.

Medics transported Damani Mathews Jr to a hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash, and CHP will book him into jail on multiple felony charges after he is medically cleared.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the injured highway worker to a hospital, the man sustained major injuries.
