Gerad Raymond Sandate Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision on US 385
Odessa, TX (July 14, 2023) On Wednesday, 31-year-old Cynthia Fernandez and a minor, both from Donna, died after a DWI crash on FM 1787.
Authorities say that the fatal hit-and-run collision happened at the intersection with US 385.
Reports say that 43-year-old Gerad Raymond Sandate of Odessa, was driving a westbound Nissan Frontier that struck a northbound Mitsubishi Outlander where Fernandez and a 9-year-old child are passengers. Furthermore, officials pronounced Fernandez and the minor dead at the scene.
Officials say that Sandate failed to stop at a red light and drove through the intersection causing the collision. Medics transported injured people involved in the crash to Medical Center Hospital and have since been treated and released.
Meanwhile, officials say that Sandate fled the scene on foot after the collision, officials later found and arrested Gerad Raymond Sandate in the 400 block of East Sundown. Officers booked Sandate into int Ector County Jail and charged with multiple counts of Intoxicated Manslaughter.
DPS is investigating the fatal hit-and-run collision.
