Cynthia Avalos Dies in Fatal DUI Crash on Southbound 15 Freeway in Temecula
Temecula, CA (August 22, 2020) – Early Saturday, 28-year-old Cynthia Avalos of Riverside died, and two others sustained injuries in a DUI crash southbound on the 15 Freeway.
The incident happened at around 1:05 a.m. on August 22.
Police say a 2004 Scion XA traveling south on the freeway, just south of Rancho California Road when the driver of the car abruptly turned toward the right, sending the vehicle off the southbound 15 Freeway lanes, down a dirt embankment, and into a tree.
The car then cut the tree from its base, causing the tree to land on a vehicle parked on Mercedes Street, near the freeway.
As a result, the driver and the two passengers were transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with severe injuries. The woman in the front seat died at the hospital shortly after. Her identity remains undisclosed.
At this time, the driver is facing charges on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
