45-Year-Old Man Killed in Oxnard Bicycle Collision with Truck
OXNARD, CA (October 11, 2019) — A 45-year-old bicyclist died in a collision with a truck on East Wooley Road Thursday morning.
The police said they received a report about the crash at about 11:30 a.m. A tractor-trailer fatally hit the adult male cyclist west of Saviers Road. The authorities pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.
An initial investigation showed that the 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer was westbound on Wooley Road when it hit the cyclist. The victim was riding his bicycle eastward in the westbound lane of Wooley Road as per the officers.
The investigators initially believed that the truck driver fled the scene after the crash. They found the tractor-trailer a short time later. And they determined that the 55-year-old man driving the vehicle was unaware of the collision.
The driver was cooperative with the investigators and was not arrested. Whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash was unknown. Further investigation is underway.
