Curtis Shottenkirk Injured in Bicycle Crash on Hilltop Drive [Redding, CA]

49-Year-Old Redding Bicyclist Dragged and Injured by SUV near Lake Boulevard

REDDING, CA (October 18, 2018) – A man was injured Thursday evening following a bicycle crash near Lake Boulevard. The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Curtis Shottenkirk of Redding.

According to officials with the Redding Police Department, the incident took place at about 7:30 PM. A Toyota RAV4, driven by 80-year-old Edward Plaza of Redding, turned right onto Hilltop Drive on a green light when a bicycle crossed in front of it.

The impact of the collision threw the bicyclist underneath the vehicle, dragging him 50 feet away from the scene. Shottenkirk suffered multiple injuries was then transported to the Mercy Medical Center with broken bones. Updates on his current medical condition were not immediately available.

Meanwhile, Plaza remained on site and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the collision, which remains under investigation at this time. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
