Crystal Oaxaca Struck and Killed by Truck after Crawling into Traffic in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (November 08, 2019) – The authorities have identified the woman who was fatally hit by a pickup truck after crawling into traffic as 38-year-old Crystal Oaxaca.
The collision occurred on Tuesday at about 9:30 p.m. near Blackstone Avenue and Ashlan Avenue.
A preliminary investigation showed that Oaxaca left a nearby store with her friend. When the friend left her sitting on the sidewalk, Oaxaca laid down on the ground. She crawled into the road and then laid flat in front of passing traffic.
Traffic Enforcement Bureau Commander Lt. Mike Brogdon said Oaxaca laid down flat, face down, and just stayed there.
Meantime, a 26-year-old woman driving a pickup truck pulled out of the nearby Motel 6. Brogdon said she started southbound in the number two lane and did not see the person in the road before driving over her.
The driver told the officers she didn’t know what it was. She stopped and she thought she had driven over some debris or something.
First responders took Oaxaca to the hospital where she later died.
Meantime, the officers tested and cleared the pickup truck driver of intoxication. However, the incident remains under investigation by the Fresno police.
