19-Year-Old Cruz Valdez Dies After Crash on US 70 and South Roosevelt Road U in Portales

Portales, NM (July 23, 2024) – On Tuesday, 19-year-old Cruz Valdez died in a crash on U.S. 70 and South Roosevelt Road U.

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a teenage pedestrian early Sunday morning south of Portales. 

Sheriff Javier Sanchez reported that 19-year-old Cruz Valdez was struck by a vehicle. In a text message, Sanchez stated that deputies were dispatched to the crash site at U.S. 70 and South Roosevelt Road U at 3:24 a.m. on Sunday. 

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday. “We are currently waiting for toxicology results from the Office of the Medical Investigator,” Sanchez wrote.
