Pedestrian Crash on Vanowen Street in Valley Glen
VALLEY GLEN, CA (September 16, 2019) – A crossing guard and a student were hospitalized after being struck by a car Monday morning in Valley Glen.
The incident happened around 7:20 a.m. on Vanowen Street near Sunnyslope Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a 16-year-old girl and a female crossing guard were walking across the street when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Vanowen hit them.
Paramedics transported both victims to a regional trauma center. The crossing guard suffered unspecified injuries that are potentially life-threatening. The teen complained of foot pain, and possibly had a broken foot.
The male driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
Authorities said the crash appeared accidental and the driver possibly could not see very clearly because he was possibly blinded by the sun.
A stretch of Vanowen was blocked off at Sunnyslope in the hours after the collision as police continued to investigate.
