3 People Hospitalized After Crash on West Loop 289 in Lubbock
Lubbock, TX (April 19, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, the Lubbock Police Department responded to a crash on West Loop 289 injuring 3 people.
The truck had struck a gas line, causing gas to leak audibly from it, according to the police report.
Additionally, the vehicle had collided with a street sign on the west side of the roadway, approximately 200 feet north of where the vehicle had wrecked.
When the officer made contact with the driver, he detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and body, the report noted.
The driver also had blood on his hands, neck, and face. Ambulances transported the driver and two other unnamed individuals to University Medical Center, according to the report.
The driver spoke again with an officer, revealing that he believed his wheel bearing had malfunctioned and admitting to consuming four Coors Banquets at a prom party about two hours before the crash.
After receiving a CT scan, the driver informed the officer that he was traveling from an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Frankford Avenue and headed to Wolfforth.
The report indicated that due to injuries from the crash, a passenger sustained serious bodily injuries to his back vertebrae and was admitted to UMC at the time.
