Torrance, CA (January 11, 2024) – On Thursday afternoon, 66-year-old Maria Salazar sustained injuries in a crash on Vermont Avenue.

Reportedly, a pursuit driver in a stolen Toyota Prius struck Salazar carrying grocery bags in a crosswalk during a harrowing chase in Los Angeles’ Harbor City area on Thursday. 

The chase, which started just before 1 p.m. in the South Bay following a report of a suspected DUI driver and carjacking, led the driver to the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance. 

Concurrently, another carjacking involving a Prius was reported in the vicinity. 

While the details of the carjackings remain undisclosed, Torrance police identified and pursued the stolen Prius for about four miles into the Harbor City area. 

The driver, speeding on the wrong side of the street and ignoring stoplights, caused the Prius to mount a curb, knock down a pole, and, after being tapped from behind by a patrol SUV. 

The Prius slid into Maria Salazar at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard.
