3 Deputies and Driver Hospitalized after 2-Vehicle Crash on La Sierra in Riverside

Riverside, CA (February 8, 2024) – On Thursday morning, 3 deputies sustained injuries in a crash on La Sierra.

The Riverside Fire Department reported the collision at the intersection of La Sierra and Victoria Avenues at 9:26 a.m.

A spokesman for the CHP announced that the agency is leading the crash investigation. He detailed the injuries: one deputy sustained a broken collarbone, while two others experienced pain.

 The car’s driver, who struck the van, also reported feeling pain. Authorities transported all four individuals to Riverside Community Hospital.

Reportedly, the car was traveling west on Victoria and ran a red light, crashing into the sheriff’s van, which was moving south on La Sierra. 

The authorities arrested the car’s driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. However, the officer did not have immediate details on whether the substances involved were illegal narcotics or prescription medications.

Details about the type of van the deputies were in at the time of the crash, which occurred near the Riverside city limits, were not provided. 

The Sheriff’s Department directed all inquiries to the CHP.

For the ongoing investigation, officials closed the intersection into the afternoon.
