Alarming Crash on Interstate 5 Left 2 Drivers Injured [Tehama County, CA]

Dawn Potterton and Freddy Nsunzu Hospitalized after Crash on Interstate 5 in Tehama County

Tehama County, CA (December 7, 2023) – CHP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 injuring two drivers.

The CHP reports that Dawn Potterton, 59, was driving a blue 2014 Hyundai Sonata southbound in the number two lane at approximately 25 mph. 

Concurrently, Freddy Nsunzu, 46, was operating a white 2023 Freightliner Cascadia with a fully loaded trailer in the same lane, traveling at about 60 mph.

According to the CHP, the Freightliner collided with the rear of the Hyundai, causing both vehicles to cross the center median and subsequently enter the northbound lanes of Interstate 5. 

Following the collision, the Freightliner overturned and came to rest on its passenger side, while the Hyundai ended up on the east shoulder in an upright position.

Both individuals were transported due to complaints of pain-related injuries.

The CHP indicates that Potterton was arrested and subsequently released to the hospital for treatment.

Investigation into impairment as a potential contributing factor in the crash is underway.
