Driver Injured After Crash on Interstate 40 in Gray County

Gray County, TX (February 14, 2024) – On Thursday evening, 3 people sustained injuries in a crash on Interstate 40.

Reportedly, by diving under his trailer to avoid getting hit by another semi on I-40, a stranded truck driver likely saved his own life. 

The crash occurred after 7 p.m. near Groom. The DPS reports that a semi broke down at mile marker 122. 

After exiting his vehicle to inspect his tractor-trailer and placing traffic cones to alert other drivers, another eastbound semi collided with the rear of his big rig. 

Remarkably, he noticed the approaching danger in time and managed to move out of the way. 

A Lifestar helicopter landed on I-40 to take him to the hospital. The other driver and the passenger in the first truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. 

Responding to the crash were DPS, the Gray County Sheriff’s Office, Gray County EMS, Hoover VFD, Groom Fire, Clarendon Fire, Clarendon EMS, and McLean Fire.
