17-Year-Old Boy Died in Solo Vehicle Crash near Lisboa Springs Hatchery in Pecos

Pecos, NM (September 17, 2024) – A 17-year-old boy died, and three other minors were injured in a single-vehicle crash near Lisboa Springs Hatchery Sunday evening.

The teenager was driving a Chevrolet SUV on N.M. 63 when he failed to navigate a turn, causing the vehicle to roll over, Officer Silver wrote in an email.

The teen was ejected from the SUV, and police were dispatched to the scene near the Lisboa Springs Hatchery around 6:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.

Police determined the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, and officers are investigating whether alcohol contributed to the crash. 

The three other passengers, all minors, sustained minor injuries. 

The investigation is ongoing.
