Car Catches Fire on 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, Fatality Reported
COSTA MESA, CA (November 18, 2018) – At least one person was killed following a fiery crash late Sunday evening in Costa Mesa, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on northbound 55 Freeway, just south of Highway 73.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a small sedan had caught fire in the fast lane of the freeway. When officers and emergency crews arrived on the scene, nobody was seen outside of the car, unknown if parties involved were trapped inside the vehicle.
A few minutes later, authorities confirmed the fatality of the incident. The exact number of victims and their identities were not immediately available.
All lanes were stopped for the on-scene investigation.
