Two Drivers Dead after Fiery Head-On Crash on Highway 99E
LOS MOLINOS (August 13, 2019) – Authorities identified 21-year-old Colton Stout of Los Molinos as one of the drivers killed in a fiery crash on Highway 99E, Tuesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near 6th Avenue, at about 11:17 PM. Due to unknown reasons, a northbound Dodge Caliber traveled erratically at a high rate of speed on the highway. Then, it veered into the southbound lane and slammed head-on into Stout’s gold Saturn Ion.
The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to catch fire and become engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from Tehama County Rural Fire Department and CalFire had to extricate both drivers from the burnt vehicles. Unfortunately, Stout succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the unidentified driver of the Dodge Caliber also died at the scene.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
