Wrong-Way Collision on 91 Freeway Kills Jennifer Cardenas [Corona, CA]

Passenger Injured in Corona Fatal Collision

Corona, CA (March 7, 2023) – On Sunday, 22-year-old Jennifer Cardenas of Riverside, and another driver died in a wrong-way collision on 91 Freeway.

The fatal crash happened minutes before 4 a.m. on the eastbound freeway, east of Interstate 15 in Riverside.

“The driver of a 2019 Honda Accord entered the freeway traveling westbound in eastbound lanes at a high rate of speed,” Officer Javier Navarro said.

Apparently, a 24-year-old Riverside-area woman, driving roughly 90 mph steered her Honda into the HOV lane toward Corona.

The wrong-way driver drove in the HOV lane for almost five minutes and then collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla driven by Cardenas.

Immediately, the Corona Fire Department responded to the crash scene and located Jennifer Cardenas dead.

Officers also declared the Honda driver dead at the scene. Her passenger, a 23-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a regional trauma center for treatment.

Meanwhile, the authorities are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the Corona fatal collision. An autopsy was pending on the Honda driver.
