30-Year-Old Motorist Killed and Six Others Injured in Collision near Lambert Road
ELK GROVE, CA (August 27, 2018) – A man was killed and six others were injured in a DUI crash on the 5 Freeway, early Monday morning. The deceased victim was identified as 30-year-old Colin Michael Mulhern of Centennial, Colorado.
The California Highway Patrol said that the collision involved a van with a trailer and an SUV. It took place just after 2:35 AM on the I-5, near Lambert Road.
According to reports, the trailer being towed by a van carrying seven passengers was struck by an SUV driven by a suspected DUI driver. The van then swung out of control and overturned, ejecting many of the van’s passengers.
Mulhern was pronounced dead at the scene, while six other people were taken to the hospital for treatment and evaluation. Three people suffered major injuries, while the other three had minor injuries. There is no update on their current medical conditions.
Officers arrested the SUV driver, a 27-year-old woman of Los Banos, on suspicion of being under the influence at the time of the crash. Additional information on the fatal crash and her identity were not immediately released to the public.
