Rider Dies after Struck by Passing Vehicle on 91 Freeway in Corona
CORONA, CA (September 20, 2019) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon in Corona, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened just before 5:00 p.m. on eastbound 91 Freeway west of 71 Freeway.
CHP officials said the man was riding on his motorcycle on the right shoulder when a passing vehicle struck him. The impact sent both the bike and rider on the ground.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the rider dead at the scene. The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim Saturday as Cole McGrath, 26, of Corona.
The crash left the sixth lane of the freeway blocked and a SigAlert was issued in the area. The freeway lane was reopened at 7:55 p.m.
It is unknown if the responsible driver stayed or left the scene.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation into whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
