Clyde Ray Chappell Killed in Car Accident on State Route 67 [Lakeside, CA]

58-Year-Old El Cajon Man Fatally Injured in Solo-Vehicle Crash near Winter Gardens Boulevard

 
LAKESIDE, CA (June 2, 2018) – A man was killed in a single-vehicle collision on State Route 67, late Saturday night. The deceased victim was identified as 58-year-old Clyde Ray Chappell of El Cajon.
 
The accident was reported around 11:40 PM on the northbound 67 highway, just south of Winter Gardens Boulevard, in San Diego East County.
 
A vehicle was traveling north on the highway, when the unidentified driver lost control as it was approaching Winter Gardens. As a result, the vehicle swerved off the roadway.
 
Chappell was sitting in the rear passenger seat and was ejected from the car onto the road. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Sharp Memorial, a trauma center. Despite life-saving attempts, he was pronounced dead at 1:00 AM on June 3rd. He died of blunt force injuries. No other injuries were reported in the fatal collision.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the accident to understand the cause. No other information about the events leading up to the collision, was immediately disclosed.
