Driver in Crash that Damaged Power Poles on Highway 17 at Idylwild Road Charged for DUI
LOS GATOS, CA (May 26, 2019) – A driver was arrested following a DUI crash that knocked down power lines on Highway 17 in Los Gatos.
The crash happened around 12:48 a.m., just North of Idylwild Road.
A Ford F-150 pickup truck struck a pole and caused the wires to whiplash. The impact caused the other pole to be damaged approximately a mile away, according to the CHP.
Arriving officers tested and arrested the driver of the pickup, 23-year-old Claudia Maldonado of Pleasanton, for being under the influence of alcohol.
Highway 17 between Santa Cruz and San Jose was closed in both directions for about eight hours. PG&E crews were able to clear the power lines from the southbound lanes, which reopened to traffic around 6:20 a.m. Northbound lanes remained closed until around 7:45 a.m.
The Ford F-150 was towed from the scene and all lanes were reopened around 8:50 a.m.
Investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
