Teen Arrested for Fatal DUI Crash Near the King and Pierce County Border
FEDERAL WAY, WA (August 22, 2019) – Cindy Thach died in a DUI crash on 5 Freeway on early Thursday morning.
According to Deputies, the accident happened near the King and Pierce County border at approximately 3:00 AM. Based on a report, a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Zoe Phillips, 20, of Lakewood lost control, hit a guardrail, and then came to rest in the middle of the highway facing westbound. It was then struck by a truck driven by Kidane Mengistu, 50, of Seattle.
An attending coroner proclaimed Phillips’ passenger, Thach, 20, of Tacoma, dead on the scene. Mengistu and his passenger had minor injuries, while another passenger in Phillips’ car, a 26-year-old from Lakewood, had minor injuries.
Phillips was suspected of DUI and was arrested for vehicular homicide. No further information has been released to the public as the investigation continues.
