Christy Smith Killed in Head-on Crash on Highway 3 [Silverdale, WA]

79-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Car Accident near Highway 303 in Silverdale

 
SILVERDALE, WA (May 12, 2020) – Saturday afternoon, 79-year-old Christy Smith of Poulsbo, was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 3.
 
State troopers and medics arrived to the scene near the Highway 303 interchange around 4:05 p.m. There, they located a wrecked Toyota and a Chevy suburban.
 
Due to the impact of the collision, Smith suffered critical injuries. Medical responders took her to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment of life-threatening injuries. However, she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
 
Five people were inside the Chevy, including three adults and two juveniles, all from Port Angeles. Police revealed that a 31-year-old female passenger suffered injuries. Medics took her to Harrison Hospital in Silverdale and she is expected to survive.
 
Preliminary investigation revealed that Smith was traveling south in her Toyota from Highway 3 onto Highway 303. Meanwhile, the Chevy was traveling southbound on Highway 303 in the left turn to northbound Highway 3.
 
As the Toyota abruptly sped, she drove across the center line and crashed head-on into the Chevy.
 
The surrounding area on Highway 3 was closed off for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary investigation/duties. However, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
