23-Year-Old Man Killed After a Boulder was Thrown Onto 134 Freeway

PASADENA, CA (March 13, 2018) – A man died when a boulder hit a vehicle on the 134 Freeway on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old Christopher Lopez, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat when the incident happened.

The boulder weighed around thirty-five pounds, according to authorities. It fell on their Toyota Corolla while traveling on the 134 freeway under Orange Grove Boulevard, striking the vehicle’s front windshield and hitting Lopez.

Guadalupe Gutierrez, Lopez’s wife, was driving the car when the boulder struck the car. She rushed Lopez to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. California Highway Patrol officers believe that someone intentionally threw the boulder from the overpass, and continue to investigate. They are encouraging anyone who might have any information or leads, to contact authorities.

A GoFundMe page was set-up by a friend to assist family members with funeral expenses.
