21-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision near Kellogg Drive in Pomona
POMONA, CA (April 14, 2020) – Late Saturday night, 21-year-old Christopher Gilpineda was killed in a two-car crash on 10 Freeway.
Officers received reports of the accident around 11:25 p.m., on April 11. Dispatchers arrived on the westbound lanes near Kellogg Drive, shortly after.
Gilpineda reportedly drove a 2017 Honda Accord when his left front tire blew out. He then pulled over and stopped within the No. 3 and 4 lanes.
There, an oncoming 2018 Honda Civic struck his vehicle and Gilpineda as he was standing outside.
The impact of the collision left Gilpineda with fatal injuries. Los Angeles County coroner’s officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
Moreover, the surrouding area on 10 Freeway was closed off for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened.
The identity of the Honda Civic’s driver has not been released. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to call CHP at 626-338-1164.
