49-Year-Old Irvine Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash on El Cerrito Road, Suspect at Large
Corona, CA (September 25, 2021) – Police are looking for the hit-and-run suspect of a crash on El Cerrito Road that killed an Irvine man on Tuesday morning.
The fatal incident happened on September 21 on Interstate 15 at El Cerrito Road at about 3:55 a.m.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Dan Olivas, the 49-year-old man from Irvine driving an Acura got involved in an earlier collision with a big rig. After the incident, the truck pulled over to the right shoulder while the Acura got disabled on the road.
Then, both the driver and the passenger of Acura went out of the vehicle to the freeway shoulder. For unknown reasons, the driver went back to the vehicle when a semi-truck hit him, Olivas said.
The semi-truck continued and fled the scene while the driver died at the scene. According to the statement of CHP, the vehicle drove south on the freeway and got off at Cajalco Road.
Furthermore, CHP identified the suspect’s vehicle as a white or silver semi-truck pulling white bottom dump trailers.
The victim’s identification will be released once the family is notified. Moreover, there has been no update regarding the condition of the passenger.
