WALNUT CREEK, CA (February 10, 2019) — A 22-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol sustained minor injuries Wednesday morning when his motorcycle and a car collided south of Walnut Creek.
According to CHP Officer Brandon Correia, Officer Tom Maguire’s motorcycle and a black Jaguar sedan collided at around 8:30 a.m on southbound 680 Freeway near the Livorna Road interchange in the unincorporated community of Alamo. Both vehicles were moving toward the right shoulder before colliding with each other.
Maguire was already released from John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he was taken and treated for minor injuries. Correia mentioned that Maguire’s return to work is yet to be determined. The driver of the Jaguar was not injured.
Motorcycle riders rarely escape injury when an accident occurs. If you are riding a motorcycle, do not underestimate the bike’s speed and strictly follow traffic laws and the conditions of the road. For other motorists, do not tailgate a motorcycle and maintain a safe following distance. Give motorcycles a full traffic lane when you pass and remember that they too have equal rights on the road.
