1 Hospitalized after South Sacramento Motorcycle Accident on Highway 99
SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA (September 30, 2019) – A CHP officer sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident on Highway 99 on September 27.
“Very scary. This is like the worst nightmare possible for a motor officer, you always hate to hear that call of a motorcycle involved in a traffic collision,” CHP officer James Young stated.
According to the CHP, the 10-year veteran motorcycle officer was on patrol about 6:00 a.m. on Highway 99 north near Fruitridge Road when the motorcycle accident occurred.
“He had tried to avoid being involved in a collision [and] struck the rear of a vehicle,” Young added.
The incident led to a major slowdown near Fruitridge Road for several hours.
Officer Young added that his co-worker crashed into the back of a van. The impact threw the officer off his motorcycle. Another vehicle then struck the motorcycle.
“He was conscious, he was talking at the scene,” Young stated. “He was transported to a local hospital with major injuries.”
CHP South Sacramento also said that the officer is expected to recover.
“We’re hoping to hear good news soon,” said Young.
When driving, it is crucial to always be careful of motorcyclists, scooter riders, pedestrians, and bicyclists on the road. Motorcycle accidents are extremely dangerous because of their lack of protection and lightweight bodies.
