2 Injured in San Diego Motorcycle Accident on Interstate 5 and Via De La Valle
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 1, 2021) – Tuesday, a motorcyclist and a CHP officer suffered injuries in a crash on Interstate 5 and Via De La Valle.
The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. when the officer moved the potentially hazardous ladder. This initial incident happened in the far-left southbound lane approaching Via De La Valle.
As the officer came back to his marked patrol vehicle in the center median, the motorcyclist lost control. His 2000 Harley-Davidson steered left, hit the concrete center driver and the officer.
The impact ejected the 61-year-old rider off his motorcycle and left him with serious injuries, said CHP spokesperson Officer Juan Escobar. Meanwhile, the officer sustained “minor to moderate” injuries.
Personnel from the CHP, North County Fire Protection District, San Diego Police Department, and San Diego Sheriff’s Department all came to the scene. Then, paramedics transported both men through ambulances to hospitals.
Also, the crash led to the closure of two left lanes for more than four hours. At about 8:45 p.m., the lanes fully reopened.
