Injuries Reported in Redding Accident on Interstate 5 near Bonneyview Road
REDDING, CA (August 4, 2022) – Early Thursday morning, a CHP officer suffered injuries in a crash on Interstate 5 near Bonneyview Road.
The initial incident occurred just before 1:00 a.m. on Interstate 5 northbound near the south Bonneyview exit.
Then, the officer stopped at the traffic crash and blocked the northbound number 3 lane on Interstate. The officer found a vehicle resting in the roadway.
However, for unknown reasons, another driver uninvolved in the first crash lost control and struck the patrol car. Then, the patrol car hit the officer in a grazing manner, knocking the officer to the ground.
Responders took one of the involved persons in the initial crash to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Then, the officer sustained minor injuries and is expected to be OK.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old driver who struck the officer has been cooperative.
Furthermore, officers do not believe that DUI played a role in the crash.
