CHP Officer Hit and Injured by Vehicle while Responding to Collision on 15 Freeway (Hesperia, CA)

2 Injured in Hesperia 2-Vehicle Crash on 15 Freeway

HESPERIA, CA (February 16, 2019) — A California Highway Patrol officer sustained minor injuries after his patrol unit was rear-ended by a silver Mercedes Benz at around 8:55 a.m. Thursday. It was reported that the officer was seated inside his vehicle, which was parked along the center divider of the 15 Freeway, when it got hit.

According to reports from the CHP, the officer responded to a traffic collision involving a blue Toyota Prius on the northbound 15 Freeway and Oak Hills Road in Hesperia at about 8:40 a.m. He then reported a second crash at the same location, this time involving himself.

The officer was transported to a hospital by a ground ambulance. The driver of the Mercedes, who suffered head trauma, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

A SigAlert was issued at 9:24 a.m. and remained in effect for an hour. Tow trucks were needed to clear the vehicles from the center divider.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
