One Passenger Dies, One Critical after a Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 101 Victoria Avenue in Ventura
Ventura, CA (June 20, 2021) – Early Sunday, Chloe Arbuckle, 16, died, and a 17-year-old female from Oxnard sustained injuries in a DUI crash on Highway 101.
Subsequently, police arrested 22-year-old Nelson Rivas of Oxnard for felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Furthermore, his charges include felony DUI alcohol causing injury, and felony driving with a .08% blood-alcohol level causing injury.
The fatal crash in Ventura happened at around 4:20 a.m.on June 20, on the southbound 101 Freeway, south of Victoria Avenue.
The CHP said the vehicle had just entered the freeway.
Then, it went out of control and plunged off the freeway to the railroad tracks near the Ventura Auto Center.
The two passengers in the vehicle were ejected from the 2005 Nissan Sentra. Neither female wore a seatbelt.
As a result, 16-year-old Chloe Arbuckle of Ventura died at the scene. EMS took the other passenger, 17, to VCMC with major injuries.
Rivas was treated for moderate injuries and then booked into the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $55,000.
