Child Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 26 [Linden, CA]

4-Year-Old Child Fatally Injured in Accident between Murray and Jack Tone Roads

 
LINDEN, CA (May 27, 2018) – A 4-year-old child was fatally injured in a head-on crash on Highway 26, late Sunday morning.
 
According to reports, a Cadillac was driving westbound on the highway near North Murray Road, at around 11:00 AM. For unknown reasons, it crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Toyota. The collision occurred on a straight stretch of Highway 26 between Murray and Jack Tone roads, as stated by the California Highway Patrol.
 
The child was restrained in a child safety seat in the back of a Toyota, but the impact of the crash was too severe. A second child was similarly restrained in the Toyota, but did not suffer any injuries.
 
The silver Toyota was driving eastbound on the two-lane highway when, a gold Cadillac heading westbound went into the eastbound lane. The left front of the Cadillac collided with the left front of the Toyota, as per physical evidence and witness statements. From the impact, the Toyota rotated counterclockwise off the south side of the roadway and into a culvert, before striking a power pole and coming to a full stop. The Cadillac continued forward off the north side of the highway, taking out a mailbox mounted on a steel post before it stopped.
 
Emergency responders performed life-saving efforts on the child, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Aside from the two children, everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and only the Cadillac driver was transported to an area hospital after complaining of pain.
 
The highway was closed down at the area of the collision for about two-and-a-half hours while the investigation was taking place. CHP initially stated that alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash. No additional information was immediately disclosed.
