Child Hurt after Bike Crashed into Bus
HESPERIA, CA (April 11, 2019) — A 10-year-old child sustained injuries after a bicycle crash in Hesperia on Wednesday, April 10.
The accident occurred at around 2:44 p.m. in the area of Fairburn Street and Peach Avenue.
Officer Osegueda with the Victorville CHP said that the bus traveled northbound on Peach Avenue while the male child rode his bicycle east on Fairburn.
According to reports, only eastbound and westbound traffic have stop signs. However, the northbound and southbound direction of traffic does not.
CHP officials said that the boy failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the southwest corner of the intersection. The juvenile then continued into the intersection at around 10 miles per hour. Subsequently, he crashed with the left side of the school bus.
School officials asked for an additional bus to transport the 37 children who were going to their destinations.
The child reportedly sustained multiple fractures and face injuries due to the incident. Paramedics airlifted him to Loma Linda University Medical Center. San Bernardino County Fire Helicopter H325 landed at Ranchero Middle School to transport the juvenile to the trauma center.
No students on the school bus sustained injuries. Victorville CHP is still investigating the collision.
