Three-Vehicle Collision Under Rainy Conditions on Highway 99 in Chico Kills One and Injures Two
CHICO, CA (March 25, 2019) – One person was killed and two others were injured following a three-vehicle collision under rainy conditions Monday afternoon in Chico.
The fatal collision happened around 12:27 p.m. on northbound Highway 99 near Gaia Way.
According to reports, a blue Honda Civic was traveling northbound when it lost control and drifted into the southbound lanes, where it was struck by a red 2001 Toyota 4Runner that was traveling southbound on Highway 101.
The Toyota was also struck by a silver 2017 Dodge pickup truck that was traveling southbound behind the SUV.
The male driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old Oroville resident, and the driver of the Dodge, a 41-year-old from Red Bluff, suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized.
Both lanes of the highway were shut down as officers worked on the scene. The roadway was re-opened by 3:00 p.m.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
