Major Injuries Sustained in Afternoon 2-Car Crash on Highway 99 in Chico
CHICO, CA (May 11, 2019) – Three people were injured following a two-car crash Saturday afternoon in Chico, authorities said.
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, just North of Eaton Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white SUV was merging onto Highway 99 when another car did not see them coming. They both side-swiped and spun off the road, one of them struck a tree head-on.
Three people, including two elderly people in one of the cars, were injured in the crash. At least one of the patients suffered major injuries.
Police closed down one lane of the highway for about an hour while emergency crews worked on the scene.
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
