GCU Students Valladares and Ingle Die in Crash on Interstate 40  

Near Lupton, AZ (April 8, 2022) – On Saturday, two Grand Canyon University students identified as Chelsea Nicole Valladares and Kelli Ingle, died in a crash on Interstate 40.

The fatal crash on Interstate 40 happened just after 11 p.m. on April 2 near Arizona’s border with New Mexico.

AZDPS said the students were going east on I-40 when the driver drifted left and hit a guardrail. Then the vehicle blocked the one lane when it finally stopped, but a tractor-trailer hit it.

EMS then transported the driver to a hospital in Gallup, New Mexico in critical condition. The passenger died at the crash scene. 

On Thursday, the GCU identified the two victims as 21-year-old  Valladares from Habor City, California, and 22-year-old Ingle, a senior with ties to Albuquerque.  The two were said to be roommates.
