Jana Bedford and Michael Drayer Hospitalized after Accident near Avery Ranch Road Bridge
CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (April 22, 2018) – A Stockton man was fatally injured in a solo-car crash on Camp 9 Road in rural eastern Calaveras County, early Sunday afternoon. The deceased victim was identified by the Calaveras County Coroner’s Office as 44-year-old Chauncey Delongpre.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Delongpre was traveling eastbound on Camp 9 in a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, just east of the Avery Ranch Road Bridge. For unknown reasons, he drove off the north side of the road and struck a large boulder. The Jeep overturned onto its passenger side from the impact.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash and pronounced Delongpre dead. Two passengers were sitting in the car at the time of the accident: 38-year-old Jana Bedford of Stockton and 45-year-old Michael Drayer of Murphys. Bedford sustained major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, while Drayer sustained moderate injuries and was airlifted to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. There is no update on their current condition at this time.
Preliminary investigation shows that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. It is unclear whether or not drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in this fatal collision. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Chauncey Delongpre. May he rest in peace.
