Crash Involving 3 Big Rigs and Pickup Truck on Highway 99 in Galt Leaves 2 Men Dead
GALT, CA (January 28, 2020) – The identites of the two men killed in a big rig crash Tuesday morning in Galt have been released.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified them as 20-year-old Charlie Mosqueda and 33-year-old Antonio Mosqueda. Both were Galt residents.
The crash happened just before 7:00 a.m. on Highway 99 near Ayers Lane south of Twin Cities Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Antonio was driving a Chevrolet Silverado in front of a 2008 Freight tractor-trailer in a northbound lane of the highway.
Antonio slowed down as traffic started backing up just north of Ayers Lane. Instead of slowing down or stopping, the big rig driver slammed into their pickup truck.
The impact pushed the Silverado forward, rear-ending a slow-moving big rig, according to the CHP. The chain reaction crash continued as a third tractor-trailer was hit from behind.
As a result, both Antonio and Charlie died at the scene.
The driver of the first tractor trailer, a 43-year-old Sacramento man, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The other two truck drivers were not injured.
CHP officials did not rule out intoxication as a factor in the crash.
We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Charlie Mosqueda and Antonio Mosqueda during this time of grief.
