62-Year-Old Motorcyclist Charlie Brechtel Pronounced Dead after Accident near Duchess Drive
Copperopolis, CA (April 30, 2020) – Late Saturday afternoon, Charlie Brechtel was killed in a motorcycle collision on O’Bynes Ferry Road.
California Highway Patrol first reported the two-vehicle collision shortly before 6 p.m., on O’Bynes Ferry Road.
They later identified the involved vehicles as a 1987 Harley Davidson driven by Brechtel, and a 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by Briana Mason, of Davis.
For unknown reasons, Brechtel suddenly lost control and crossed over the double yellow line before striking the left side of the Chevy.
Due to the impact, Brechtel was ejected from the motorcycle. Medics later pronounced Brechtel dead on scene due to the extent of his injuries.
Police closed off the surrounding area on O’Bynes Ferry Road for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. However, they’ve since reopened the roadway.
Brechtel, 62, was a well-known figure, especially from the motorcycle enthusiast community. His friends often called him “Good Time Charlie.” His band would sometimes perform in South Dakota for the Sturgis Rally.
Police Investigation
CHP reported that neither drugs nor alcohol are a factor in the collision that occurred.
At this time, no further details have been released. Once available, more information will be added.
