Spiderman’s Visual Effect Designer Charles Mcllvain Among Boat Fire Victims In Santa Barbara County
SANTA BARBARA, CA (September 2, 2019) – Police identified one victim of the diving boat fire near Santa Cruz Island as Charles Mcllvain.
Chuck to his family and friends, McIlvain, 44, of Santa Monica, was a visual effects designer at Sony Pictures Imageworks in Culver City for 15 years. He was also known for his work on movies such as “Watchmen,” Spider-Man” and “Green Lantern.”
Based on reports, flames engulfed the diving vessel Conception in the predawn hours of Labor Day off the coast of Southern California. 39 people, including six crew members, were on board during the accident. However, the events leading up are currently unclear.
Furthermore, five crew members escaped the fire. However, the other 34 passengers did not make it.
As of Wednesday afternoon, search teams recovered 33 bodies. However, one person is still missing at this time.
The other victims were identified as: Neal Baltz, Patricia Beitzinger, Allie Kurtz, Scott Chan, Kendra Chan, Berenice Felipe, Tia Salika, Steve Salika, Diana Adamic, Evan Quitasol, Nicole Quitasol, Angela Quitasol, Fernisa Sison, Michael Quitasol, Kristy Finstad, Marybeth Guiney, Lisa Fiedler and Mike Kohls.
Police have not yet released the identities of the remaining victims. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
