Pedestrian Identified As Charlene Webb Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Highway 99
Livingstone, CA (August 13, 2020) – Officers responded to a crash on Highway 99 where a vehicle fatally struck Charlene Webb on Wednesday last week.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash happened on August 5 on Highway 99 south of Sultana Drive. It took place at about 12:30 a.m., CHP said.
Merced County Coroner spokesperson Deputy Daryl Allen said the fatal victim identified as Charlene Webb, 30 was believed to be a Las Vegas resident.
According to the report, Webb was in a vehicle with a male occupant traveling southbound on Highway 99. The driver of the vehicle suddenly pulled to the right shoulder of the road for unknown reasons. However, it is unclear who between Webb and the male occupant was the driver of the vehicle.
Webb then went out of the vehicle and ran across the southbound lanes in the middle of the traffic. Webb was seen jumping over the median before she tried to cross the northbound lanes.
CHP said that is when an SUV struck her.
Currently, CHP is still investigating the tragic incident. Moreover, further details were not immediately available.
