Driver Injured in Napa Deadly Crash
Napa, CA (July 18, 2024) – Cesar Gomez Martinez, 38, of Vallejo, was killed in a vehicle crash on Highway 12 Saturday night.
The fatal collision was reported at 11:13 p.m. at the intersection with Highway 29.
Investigators said a 66-year-old man from Sparta, Missouri, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 truck towing a 2004 RV trailer on Highway 12 toward a red light at the intersection. Troopers said the man was traveling at approximately 75 mph.
At the same time, Cesar Gomez Martinez was driving a southbound 2019 Volkswagen Golf on the same highway toward a green light at the intersection.
Moreover, a 45-year-old Napa man was driving an eastbound 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 HD on Airport Boulevard slowing for the red light at the same intersection.
The Dodge truck driver continued through the intersection at a solid red traffic light and crashed into the Volkswagen left side.
That impact of the collision pushed the Volkswagen in a southwesterly direction and crashed into a pole.
Afterward, the Dodge and trailer drove in a westerly direction as it jackknife into the eastbound lanes of Airport Boulevard.
The Dodge and trailer then crashed into the GMC that was slowing down for the red light at the intersection.
Responding officers declared Martinez deceased at the scene while the GMC driver incurred chest, neck and shoulder injuries and was transported to a hospital.
CHP officers said drugs and/or alcohol were not suspected in this collision.
