37-Year-Old Passenger Killed in Collision on Highway 99 near Mitchell Road; Jacob Hogatt Arrested
CERES, CA (February 19, 2018) – A 37-year-old man from Modesto was killed in DUI a car crash on Highway 99 south of Mitchell Road in Modesto on late Monday night.
According to California Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Jacob Hogatt of Turlock was driving northbound in a 2001 Honda sedan on Highway 99 just before 11:30 PM, the same time a big rig was headed in the same direction.
The Honda crashed into the back of the left rear corner of the big rig trailer which caused the car to go out of control and onto the east shoulder where it hit a cyclone fence. The car vehicle continued across Rohde Road, then came to a stop.
Hogatt sustained minor injuries and was arrested after showing signs of impairment. The 37-year-old passenger sitting in Hogatt’s car was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the big rig, 64-year-old Charles E. Marquardt, was not hurt in the accident.
Investigators determined that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. Police arrested Hogatt on suspicion of driving under the influence.
