Rider of Motorized Tricycle Struck and Killed in Ceres
CERES, CA (April 28, 2019) – A man who was riding a motorized tricycle was fatally struck by a car Sunday evening in Ceres.
The crash was reported at 8:45 p.m. at Service and Collins roads. Officers found the trike rider lying in the roadway, and a Lexus stopped on the northbound shoulder of Service Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 32-year-old Yadira Flores of Ceres was driving a Lexus eastbound on Service Road, just East of Collins Road, at about 40 mph. Apparently not seeing the tricycle, she hit the bike from the rear.
The impact sent the rider airborne and struck the Lexus’ windshield at the roof line. He continued over the top, breaking the sunroof, then hit the trunk before falling to the ground.
Flores continued eastbound and knew she had hit something, but didn’t know what it is, officials said. So she turned around the found the rider lying in the roadway.
Responding paramedics pronounced the rider dead at the scene. His identity has been withheld pending family notification.
Flores stopped west of Moffet Street on the shoulder of Service Road and cooperated with officials.
Investigation of this fatal incident is still ongoing.
