15-Year-Old Filmore Boy Dies in Ventura Crash at Telegraph Road and Claremont Way
VENTURA, CA (May 17, 2019) – A teenage boy was killed when the vehicle he was riding collided with a pole early Friday morning in Ventura.
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Cecilio Ortiz Garcia Jr., 15, of Fillmore.
The crash was reported around 1:35 a.m. at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Claremont Way, just in front of Ventura College.
Ventura police responded to the scene and found the vehicle crashed into a traffic signal pole with five occupants inside.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle carrying five people was traveling on Telegraph Road at a high rate of speed when it left the road and hit the pole.
Garcia Jr., who was the front passenger, died at the scene.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The other three passengers suffered serious injuries. All are also 15-year-old boys.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Alcohol was being ruled out as a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
